Compare the Jagged Earth and Branch and Claw premium foil spirit panels on price, expansion requirements, and fit so you can decide which upgrade is right for your Spirit Island collection.
Quick answer
Buy the Jagged Earth foil panels if you own and play Spirit Island: Jagged Earth; buy the Branch and Claw foil panels if you own that expansion instead. Each set only replaces the spirit panels from its matching expansion, so your choice depends on which expansion is already on your shelf.
What each foil set actually replaces
These are not universal upgrades. The Jagged Earth set replaces each Spirit Panel from Spirit Island: Jagged Earth, and the Branch and Claw set replaces each Spirit Panel from Spirit Island: Branch and Claw. Neither set covers the base game's spirits, so you still need a copy of Spirit Island and the matching expansion to use either one.
That means the real comparison is not foil versus standard in the abstract — it is which expansion you already play. If you own both expansions, the two sets are complementary rather than competing, and you can upgrade one or both over time.
Price and value trade-off
The Jagged Earth set carries the higher catalog price (USD 6.69, compared with a USD 9.99 comparison price), while the Branch and Claw set is listed at USD 1.95 (compared with USD 2.95). The gap is large enough that the Branch and Claw set is an easy impulse add-on, while the Jagged Earth set is better treated as a deliberate upgrade for a game you play often.
Neither listing includes option types or panel dimensions, so do not assume a different card size or thickness. The catalog describes these as replacements for the existing panels with the same spirit information, not as resized or redesigned components.
Where the decision gets tricky
If you are new to Spirit Island and have not settled on an expansion, buying foil panels first is backwards — you would be paying to upgrade panels you cannot yet use. Start with the expansion, play it enough to know you will keep it, then upgrade.
If you sleeve cards or store panels in a tight insert, note that the catalog does not supply panel dimensions or thickness for either set. Check your own insert clearance before ordering rather than assuming foil panels fit identically to standard ones.
Trade-offs to weigh before you buy
- Expansion lock-in: Each set is tied to one expansion. Jagged Earth panels do nothing for Branch and Claw spirits, and vice versa, so match the set to the expansion you actually play. List your owned expansions before choosing a set.
- Cost per upgrade: The Jagged Earth set costs more at catalog price, while the Branch and Claw set is inexpensive enough to add without much deliberation. Spend on the expansion you return to most.
- Fit uncertainty: No panel dimensions or thickness are supplied for either set. Measure your insert or storage solution and compare against your current panels before ordering. If clearance is tight, test with one set first.
