I went in expecting a simple war game and got a tight engine builder instead. Balancing factories against draft cards kept every turn tense, and the solo variant holds up way better than I figured it would.
The resource management side really surprised me — balancing factories and military build-up each turn keeps you thinking two moves ahead. Played three rounds back to back and lost track of time completely.
My first game ended in a nuclear stalemate and I immediately reset to try a pure air-force build instead. The tension between growing your economy and rushing military production is genuinely tough to balance, which is exactly what keeps me coming back.
