En Girl Genius: The Works, cada carta es un engranaje en una máquina gigante compuesta por un tablero de doce cartas. En su turno, los jugadores voltean, giran y “explotan” cartas, que interactúan de diferentes maneras. Dependiendo de la situación, las cartas pueden explotar individualmente o en cadena, ¡dándote puntos extra, más cartas o algo completamente diferente! El primer jugador en alcanzar 70 puntos gana.

Actualmente están disponibles cuatro mazos diferentes de 60 cartas, cada uno representando un arco importante de la historia de Girl Genius, aunque solo necesitas un mazo para jugar. Cada carta presenta ilustraciones únicas e inéditas de Studio Foglio, la máquina creativa detrás del webcómic steampunk Girl Genius. El mazo de Circus of Adventure de Master Payne contiene elementos de la historia del tiempo de Agatha en el circo, así como su visita a Sturmhalten.
