They are joined by enough new dwarves for up to 12 players. The boss tries to help both groups. The profiteer deals with everyone. The geologists hunt crystals rather than gold.
Playing with 12 people is chaos in the best way, and the two rival dwarf teams mean you're never quite sure who's actually on your side. The new role cards add just enough confusion without overcomplicating things.
The two competing dwarf teams completely change the game—now you're never sure if the guy next to you wants gold or just wants your team to fail. Works great with our group of 8, though it can drag a bit with slower players.
Twelve players in one game and it never dragged — the two competing dwarf teams mean you're never quite sure who to trust, which is way more fun than the original's simple saboteur hunt. The gold-nugget splitting at the end got a little fiddly with that many hands, but honestly nobody minded.
