Quick Answer
Original Adventures Reincarnated #6: The Temple of Elemental Evil is a comprehensive 5e conversion of the classic adventure, featuring the Village of Hommlet and the infamous temple. It's best for DMs who want a faithful, expanded version of a legendary module.
A Faithful Yet Expanded Classic
The 5e conversion stays true to the spirit of the original 1985 module, but it's not a simple reprint. You get a complete adventure that's been updated for modern rules, with expanded encounters and updated lore.
The book includes the Village of Hommlet, which is described as a quaint village that once nearly fell to a great evil. This setting provides a strong starting point for the campaign, giving players a home base before they delve into the temple itself.
Production Quality and Value
The hardcover edition is built to last, with high-quality binding and durable pages that can withstand years of tabletop use. At a catalog price of $67.99 (compared to $99.99), it offers solid value for the amount of content you get.
The book is packed with detailed maps, beautiful artwork, and well-organized encounter tables, making it easy for DMs to run the adventure without excessive page-flipping.
Consider the Size and Scope
This is a massive adventure, and it can take months to complete. The temple itself is a sprawling dungeon with many levels, and the surrounding area is full of side quests and random encounters.
If you're looking for a quick one-shot or a short campaign, this might be more than you need. But if you want a long-term, epic campaign, this book delivers in spades.
Decision Rules
- Buy if you want a complete 5e campaign: If you're a DM looking for a ready-to-run, high-level campaign that will last for months, this book provides everything you need, from the starting village to the depths of the temple. Check the level range and ensure it matches your group's preference.
- Buy if you're a collector of classic modules: This book is a beautiful tribute to one of the most famous D&D adventures, with updated art and production quality. It's a great addition to any collector's shelf. Consider the price point and whether you value the physical book over digital versions.
- Skip if you prefer shorter, self-contained adventures: The Temple of Elemental Evil is a huge undertaking. If your group prefers shorter arcs or you don't have the time to commit to a long campaign, this may not be the best fit. Look for smaller modules or one-shots that fit your schedule.
Product Facts
- Original Adventures Reincarnated #6: The Temple of Elemental Evil: The Village of Hommlet, a quaint village that once nearly fell prey to a great, neighboring evil some years ago, thrives again. The nearby Temple of Elemental Evil, a grand edifice of wickedness, was defeated after a great battle and thrown into ruin forever ... or was it? This sets the stage for a classic adventure that begins with a peaceful village and escalates into a confrontation with a demonic evil, providing a strong narrative hook for players.
