『 Girl Genius: The Works』では、各カードは12枚のタブローで構成される巨大な機械の歯車の一部です。手番では、プレイヤーはカードをフリップ、スピン、「ポップ」させ、カード同士がさまざまな形で影響し合います。状況に応じて、カードは単独で、または連鎖してポップし、追加ポイントや追加カード、あるいはまったく別のものを得られます！先に70ポイントに到達したプレイヤーの勝利です！

ガール・ジーニアス物語の主要なアークをそれぞれ表す、異なる60枚入りのデッキが4種類現在入手可能ですが、プレイには1つのデッキがあれば十分です。各カードには、スチームパンク・ウェブコミック『Girl Genius』を生み出したクリエイティブ集団、Studio Foglioによるユニークでこれまでに見たことのないイラストが描かれています。 Castle Wulfenbach デッキには、JägermonstersとDingbotsというユニークカードの2つの大きなグループがあり、ゲームプレイをさらに盛り上げます。

The twelve-card tableau mechanic took a round to click, but once I saw how the flips and pops chain together I couldn't stop playing. Castle Wulfenbach deck has a nice mix of cards that mess with your opponent's machine.

Popping and spinning the cards feels weirdly satisfying, like actually turning gears in a machine. The flip-and-pop interactions keep every turn interesting since one move can set off a chain across the whole tableau. Played three rounds straight the first night.

Popping cards off the tableau is weirdly satisfying once you get the spin and flip rules down. Took my group two rounds to stop confusing the cogs, but the art is gorgeous and matches the comic perfectly. Just wish the rulebook were a bit clearer on the interactions.
